The conference is being organized by the Centre for Disability Rights (CDR), School of Law, Bennett University, in collaboration with Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur. The conference is supported by SCC Online as the Knowledge Partner.
About the Conference
The discourse on disability in India has witnessed a significant transition from welfare-oriented approaches towards a rights-based framework grounded in equality, dignity, accessibility, autonomy, and substantive justice. While legislative and judicial developments have strengthened disability rights, substantial barriers continue to impede their realization in practice.
The International Conference on “From Welfare to Rights: Reimagining Disability Justice in India” seeks to provide an interdisciplinary platform for academics, researchers, legal practitioners, policymakers, civil society organizations, disability rights advocates, and students to engage in meaningful discussions on contemporary issues relating to disability rights, law, policy, governance, and social justice.
The conference aims to foster dialogue on constitutional rights, accessibility, reasonable accommodation, education, employment, access to justice, mental health, legal capacity, criminal justice, institutional accountability, and emerging developments in disability jurisprudence.
