About the Organiser
The School of Excellence in Law (SOEL), The Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU), Chennai, is one of India’s premier law schools committed to excellence in legal education, advocacy, and research.
Through its Moot Court Association, SOEL regularly organises national-level moot court competitions and academic events to nurture advocacy, research, and courtroom skills among law students.
About the Competition
The 3rd Surana & Surana Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition (North & South Rounds) 2026–27 is designed to promote excellence in criminal trial advocacy.
The competition provides participants with a realistic courtroom experience under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA).
Participants will engage in every stage of a criminal trial, including:
- Examination and cross-examination of witnesses.
- Presentation of evidence.
- Oral advocacy.
The South Rounds of the competition will be hosted by SOEL, TNDALU, Chennai, from September 25–27, 2026. A virtual procedural test will be conducted on August 26, 2026, if registrations exceed 18 teams.
Eligibility
The competition is open to students pursuing:
- 3-year LL.B.; or
- 5-year integrated LL.B.
from institutions recognised by the Bar Council of India.
Only one team per institution is permitted to participate.

- Orientation, Draw of Lots & Memorial Exchange: September 25, 2026
- Preliminary Rounds I & II and Quarter Finals: September 26, 2026
- Semi-Finals, Finals & Valedictory Ceremony: September 27, 2026

- Trial Advocacy Team of the Year Award: Plaque + Cash Prize of ₹25,000
- Second Best Team of the Year Award: Plaque + Cash Prize of ₹15,000
- Trial Advocate of the Year Award: Plaque + Cash Prize of ₹10,000
- Second Best Trial Advocate: Plaque + Cash Prize of ₹5,000
- Best Memorial Award: Plaque + Cash Prize of ₹10,000
- Second Best Memorial Award: Plaque + Cash Prize of ₹5,000

Registration Process
Teams must register online on or before August 25, 2026.
Registration Fee
The competition follows a two-stage registration process:
- Stage I
- All teams are required to pay a registration fee of ₹2,006 (₹1,700 + 18% GST of ₹306) on or before August 25, 2026.
- Stage II
- The 18 teams qualifying for the Oral Rounds of the South Rounds must pay an additional registration fee of ₹2,006 (₹1,700 + 18% GST of ₹306) on or before September 6, 2026.
- The registration fee does not include accommodation charges. Participants are advised to refer to the Rules and Regulations for accommodation and other applicable charges.
