What is AIBE and who needs to appear?
AIBE (All India Bar Examination) is a mandatory exam conducted by the Bar Council of India. Every law graduate must pass AIBE to practise as an advocate in India. It is an open-book exam.
What is the eligibility for AIBE?
You must have an LLB degree and be enrolled as an advocate with your State Bar Council. There is no minimum marks requirement for enrollment but you must have graduated from a BCI-approved law school.
Is AIBE an open book exam?
Yes, AIBE is an open book examination. You can carry bare acts and law books. However, you cannot carry commentaries, guides or annotated books. Time management is key.
What is the passing mark for AIBE?
The passing mark is 45 percent for General category candidates and 40 percent for SC/ST/OBC candidates. The exam has 100 multiple choice questions to be answered in 3.5 hours.
How many times can I attempt AIBE?
There is no limit on the number of attempts. You can appear in AIBE as many times as needed until you pass. The exam is held twice a year.
How should I prepare for AIBE?
Focus on the most important bare acts. Start with Constitution, IPC, CrPC, CPC, Contract Act, Evidence Act, Limitation Act and Transfer of Property Act. Practise previous year papers for time management.
