Human Rights Law
Human rights lawyers defend fundamental rights and civil liberties through PIL litigation, NHRC/SHRC proceedings, criminal defence, prison reform advocacy and international human rights mechanisms. Many also work with NGOs, law clinics and legal aid organisations.
Roles and Responsibilities
- PIL litigation in High Courts and Supreme Court on rights issues
- Representation before NHRC and State Human Rights Commissions
- Criminal defence in cases involving custodial violence
- Prison reform litigation and judicial oversight work
- Advisory to NGOs and civil society organisations
- Engagement with UN treaty bodies and special procedures
