About the Role

BP India is looking for an experienced Employment Law Counsel to serve as a strategic advisor to its People & Culture (P&C) team, business leaders, and HR partners. The role spans a wide array of employment law issues, including compliance, dispute resolution, policy development, internal investigations, reorganizations, and support for corporate transactions such as mergers and acquisitions.

This is a hybrid role combining remote and office-based work.

Key Responsibilities

🔹 Legal Advice & Compliance

Provide daily legal counsel on Indian employment and labour law matters

Advise on disciplinary actions, performance management, compliance, and leave policies

Ensure alignment with statutory obligations and internal standards

🔹 Employment Contracts

Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including offer letters, non-compete agreements, confidentiality agreements, and separation terms

🔹 Reorganizations & Restructuring

Support strategic workforce changes, including redundancies and consultations

Guide communication and risk mitigation during organizational change

🔹 M&A and Business Transfers

Offer employment law guidance on mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and outsourcing

Manage employee transitions and related statutory compliance

🔹 International Assignments

Advise on international mobility, including assignment agreements and employment conditions

🔹 Dispute Resolution & Regulatory Engagement

Manage employment litigation, engage external counsel, and respond to government audits and investigations

🔹 Internal Investigations

Support and advise on internal investigations involving misconduct, harassment, or compliance breaches

🔹 Training & Enablement

Conduct legal training for internal stakeholders, including anti-sexual harassment, ethics, and disciplinary protocols

Support BPs global legal training initiatives

🔹 Policy & Precedent Development

Draft and update employment law templates, agreements, and policy frameworks

Collaborate with the P&C team to ensure policies align with evolving legal standards

Eligibility Criteria

Experience: 5–7 years in employment law, ideally within a corporate legal department or a specialized law firm

Qualification: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent; enrollment with the Indian Bar is required

Skills & Competencies

In-depth knowledge of Indian labour and employment laws

Demonstrated expertise in employment contracts, policy drafting, and internal investigations

Ability to manage multiple complex matters with sound legal judgment

Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills

Proficiency in influencing senior leadership and cross-functional teams

Location

Hybrid work model – blend of office and remote work (India-based)
