The Centre for Policy Research (CPR) is one of India’s leading public policy think tanks, undertaking interdisciplinary research on governance, law, economics, environment, and public policy. The position is being offered under the Law, Justice and Ethics Programme, led by Dr. Namita Wahi, Senior Fellow, CPR, and Founding Director of the Land Rights Initiative. The programme builds on CPR’s research initiatives on Climate Justice and Legal History.
About the Opportunity
Applications are invited for the post of Senior Researcher to contribute to the development of the Law, Justice and Ethics Programme. The role involves conducting interdisciplinary legal and policy research, coordinating research projects, and contributing to publications on themes including climate justice, legal history, land rights, constitutional law, and ethics.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
- A Master’s degree (LL.M.) or a Master’s degree in a relevant Social Science discipline such as Public Policy, Political Science, Sociology, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, or allied fields.
- At least 2 years of relevant full-time professional experience in legal, policy, or interdisciplinary research, preferably at a research institute, university, or civil society organisation.
- Demonstrated interest in constitutional law, international law, public policy, legal history, law and ethics, climate justice, or related areas.
- Strong legal research, policy analysis, and research writing skills.
- Experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Publications or research outputs in constitutional law, legal history, international law, climate law, human rights, or land rights.
- Experience managing or coordinating research projects.
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary legal and social science research.
- Experience with research software such as STATA, R, or similar tools.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will:
- Conduct legal and interdisciplinary research on climate justice, legal history, land rights, and related themes.
- Undertake literature reviews, case law analysis, and policy research.
- Support qualitative and quantitative research, including data collection and analysis.
- Coordinate field research activities where required.
- Contribute to reports, research papers, and other institutional publications.
Duration
Full-time, in-person contractual position for an initial period of 6 months, extendable based on performance and project requirements.
Remuneration
Competitive and commensurate with experience, in line with standards followed by research institutes in Delhi.
