About the Opportunity
Peter Lang Group is seeking a Junior Legal Counsel to join their in-house legal team on a remote basis (India). This is an excellent opportunity for a recently graduated law student or early career lawyer to gain international corporate legal exposure in the publishing industry.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts with suppliers and distributors
- Support with author agreements, publishing licences and copyright queries
- Update and maintain contract templates
- Employment and HR contract support across multiple European jurisdictions
- Research and document preparation for M&A and corporate transactions
- Monitor financial disputes and debt collection matters
- Research AI-related legal developments relevant to publishing
- Facilitate internal discussions around contracts and policies
- Coordinate with external lawyers and advisors worldwide
- Prepare legal research briefs and written summaries for management
Eligibility Criteria
- Currently enrolled in final year of law degree, or recently graduated
- Strong written and spoken English
- Organised, curious, and comfortable taking initiative in a small team
- Competent with MS Office, especially Word (track changes, document formatting)
- Prior experience in a law firm, legal clinic or in-house team is a plus
- CS qualification, publishing industry experience, or AI law interest are added advantages
- A second European language (German, French, Spanish, Italian) is a genuine advantage
