About the Organisation

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is a premier law university based in Bengaluru. Established in 2021, its Juvenile Justice Clinic provides direct legal aid and clinical support to children under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2015, including Children in Conflict with Law (CiCL) and Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP). The Clinic operates a legal aid Helpdesk at the Government Observation Home in Madiwala, Bengaluru, and extends legal and psychosocial support through various child protection forums.

About the Opportunity

NLSIU invites applications for the position of a full-time Social Worker for one year (extendable based on performance) at its Juvenile Justice Clinic. The Social Worker will anchor psychosocial activities, supporting vulnerable children and coordinating with institutions for their rehabilitation and welfare.

Benefits / Responsibilities / Programme Details

  • Oversee psychosocial services at the Helpdesk in Observation Home, Madiwala.

  • Review and improve report quality (SIR, ICP, Counselling Reports) as mandated by the Juvenile Justice Act.

  • Build institutional capacities for social work interventions within the Observation Home.

  • Anchor awareness and outreach programmes for children and families in Observation Home and vulnerable communities.

  • Coordinate with CSOs, NGOs, and other institutions working in the Observation Home.

  • Support preparation and conduct of training programmes, workshops, and conferences.

  • Ensure timely preparation of progress notes, social investigation reports, and individual care plans for children in conflict with law.

  • Support follow-up and rehabilitation of children in conflict with law.

  • Attend relevant state and national meetings, consultations, and conferences.

Eligibility

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or allied fields from a recognised University.

  • Minimum of three years of experience working directly with vulnerable children/communities.

  • Background in child rights or human rights.

  • Excellent English writing and communication skills.

  • Mandatory proficiency in spoken Kannada; reading and writing Kannada desirable.

  • Proficiency in G-Suite, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Workspace.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

  • Experience in psychosocial support or case management for children in vulnerable situations.

One year (extendable based on performance).
