About the Organiser

Karnavati University (NAAC Grade A+) is a State Private University dedicated to excellence in teaching and focused on interdisciplinary learning. Spread over 33 acres of land, the University is located in Uvarsad near Gandhinagar. Karnavati University was granted Private University status in March 2017 by the State of Gujarat through the Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2017.

Unitedworld School of Law (UWSL) is a constituent school of Karnavati University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. UWSL offers interdisciplinary law programs, namely BB.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) with various specializations like IPR, Business Law, Criminal Law and International Law, as well as doctoral programs. UWSL, in a short span of its existence, has adopted diverse strategies to create a lively pedagogic environment.

The Centre for Research on Mediation (CRM) at UWSL, Karnavati University, is dedicated to bringing alternative dispute resolution to life. The Centre bridges the gap between theory and practice, giving students a real-world space to master negotiation, community dispute resolution, and the evolving framework of the Mediation Act of India. Its flagship National Mediation Competitions sit at the heart of its calendar, and following a successful 2025 event, the 2026 edition returns to intense, simulation-based learning where students tackle real-world conflict mapping and interest-based bargaining.

The Gujarat International Maritime Arbitration Centre (GIMAC), located at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, is India’s first specialist dispute resolution hub dedicated entirely to the maritime and shipping sectors. Bringing together a world-class panel of sector experts, legal minds and experienced arbitrators, GIMAC provides a trustworthy and fair environment for mediation and arbitration, treating every dispute with strict neutrality, deep empathy and absolute confidentiality.

About the Competition

The National Level Mediation Competition, 2026, aims to provide students with hands-on simulation-based learning on dispute resolution covering themes like Contract & Tort Law, Property Laws, Family Laws, and International Maritime Laws. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills in mediation.

Competition Structure and Themes

  • Prelims (Law of Contract & Tort): Teams participate twice – once as Requesting Side and once as Responding Side.

  • Quarter Finals (Property Laws): Top 8 Mediators and Negotiating Pairs advance based on cumulative prelim scores.

  • Semi-Finals (Family Laws): Top 4 Mediators and Negotiating Pairs proceed on knock-out basis.

  • Finals (International Maritime Laws): Top 2 Mediators and Negotiating Pairs compete for final round.

Eligibility

  • Open to bona fide undergraduate or postgraduate law students enrolled in regular law programs or equivalent at recognized colleges/institutions/universities.

Team Composition

  • Each team consists of three members: one Mediator and one Client-Counsel pair (one student as Client and one as Counsel).

  • 2nd Runner-up Negotiating Pair: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and ₹75,000

  • Best Mediator: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and ₹30,000

  • Runner-up Mediator: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and ₹25,000

  • 2nd Runner-up Mediator: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and ₹20,000

  • All Participants: Certificate of Participation
